FOR THE HARD , FROM THE HEART

Our first task for this module was to deep dive into the concept of hopepunk and translate our understanding into action. Each group was tasked with creating a zine reflecting our exploration of hope-punk.
Walking through Portsmouth with my group,We looked at places that many people overlook. Even though it seemed forgotten, we saw potential there.

One place, The Hard, stood out to us. It looked forgotten, but we believed it could be something special.

Rachel, our instructor, introduced us to the world of color theory, learning how to mix and match colors to create vibrant palettes.

Inspired by The Hard, we carefully selected hues that echoed it.

We went on walks , engaging with locals and gathering materials from The Hard. getting ready to make something great.

As we explored the area, we felt that the hard was missing something. It was in this that our idea took shape to make The Hard into a space where people could gather, interact, and find joy.
THE JOYFUL PIER.

My individual Idea for the hard - artist book

I started my artist book concept with a simple idea: adding more seating around The Hard. It struck me that there weren't enough places for people to sit and relax. So, I thought, why not use recycled materials to create cozy seating areas?

Building on this initial idea, I
understood the aging population surrounding The Hard in Portsmouth, I recognised a need for outdoor features for them. I thought of creating spatial outdoor features like open gyms and interactive spaces. These amenities would provide opportunities for them to engage in physical activity and social interaction during their walks around The Hard.

But it was when I came across work of artist Thomas Winther that truly sparked my imagination. His project, "HAPPY CITY BIRDS," inspired me that one can merge art with environmental activism. I saw it as an opportunity to not only provide shelter for birds but also to promote recycling and social justice.

Birds are great at recycling." They play a crucial role in cleaning our environment while dispersing seeds to nurture new life"said  the original   artist .

And thus, the final concept a series of birdhouses crafted from recycled materials, each one a symbol of hope and social justice.
These birdhouses, scattered throughout The Hard, will serve as a reminder that even the smallest actions can have a profound impact.
